I left MOE in 2019 as a Year Head and also covered as a Head of Department, being the youngest HOD in my school then. Armed with an Honours degree in Pure Mathematics and being NIE-trained, I am able to both confidently deliver content with teaching methods that ensure students understand. I am also patient in the delivery of my lessons, hence being awarded the MOE Caring Teacher Award. I have been specialising in the teaching of Mathematics at the A levels (and O levels previously). I employ Socratic questioning in the teaching of Mathematics so that students understand the whys instead of merely the hows. Many students often struggle with H2 Math even though they get A1 for Amath in O levels. Having taught both O level and A level students before, I am able to give specific advice to help students bridge this learning gap. I embarked on an MOE Teaching Scholarship to pursue the BSc(Hons) from NUS majoring in Pure Mathematics. As a matter of fact, not many Math teachers in Singapore have a degree that major in Pure Mathematics. I was in the Dean's List in NUS as well. In my teaching in the MOE system, I was awarded the MOE Caring Teaching Award and was also nominated for the President Award for Teachers by my students. As a private tutor, I have taught 1 to 1 private tuition to many A level students from RI, HCI, ACJC, EJC, ASRJC, SAJC, RVHS, CJC, YIJC, TMJC Most of my students improve from E or U to eventually A grades at the A levels. This includes students from the not-so-top JCs, even a JC2 repeat student. A point to note: I would require a weekly lesson of 2h in order for the teaching and learning to be more effective as 1.5h per session is too short. This is also to train student's concentration level as the H2 papers are 3h each, unlike O level.
