Experience

I have 6 years of teaching experience from Nanyang Girls' High School, one of Singapore's top secondary schools, and I am able to teach English, English Literature, General Paper, Knowledge & Inquiry, Creative Writing, and Malay. I also have a Master of Arts (Research) in Philosophy from the National University of Singapore, which has trained me well in logic and critical thinking.

I usually form good rapport with students, which is crucial in establishing trust between tutor and student. I listen attentively to their difficulties, and I make sure I give them some room for choice and ownership in their learning. I enjoy the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring with them.

I have even tutored a Secondary 1 student with dyslexia before. The strategies I used included starting sessions with warm-ups with audiobooks first and language games, before proceeding to writing. A student with dyslexia is usually not confident about their writing ability, or would be scared of writing, so I designed writing exercises which were real-world and relevant to the student's life. It lessened their fear of writing.

I believe that learning should be real-world, multi-disciplinary, and relevant to a student's life. That is what would make learning meaningful to a student. I believe all children are born curious to learn.

Commitment

I can start immediately with a student, and I usually see them through until they are stable and more or less independent in their tuition subject. This of course varies from student to student.
